About the project

This digital archive preserves the shared history of Ukraine and South Africa in the struggle against apartheid. It is built and maintained by the Ukrainian Association of South Africa (UAZA) as part of a year-long research project — documenting documents, periodicals, photographs and oral histories, and making them freely available to researchers, educators and the public.

In March 2026, UAZA — in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute, the University of Pretoria and the University of Cape Town — launched research on Ukraine’s role in the anti-apartheid struggle. Find out how you can contribute →
